A massive landslide blocked Sun Koshi river in Northern Nepal on 02-Aug- 2014 with the possible formation of a lake. This has created flood threat for several villages downstream in Bihar, India.

Welcome to Bihar State Disaster Management Authority

Bihar is a multi-hazard prone state.It faces various types of natural and human induced disasters,for example,Floods,Drought, Earthquake,Fire,Cyclone(high speed winds),Heat Waves, Cold Waves, and Landslides etc.In addition many accidents also take place in the State.Bihar has a long history of disasters.It is believed that the old and prestigious Nalanda University got demolished due to an earthquake.If we look at the history of earthquakes in India, then a very severe earthquake occurred in Bihar on 15 January, 1934, the epicentre of which was on India–Nepal border and its magnitude was 8.0 on Richter Scale. The city of Munger got totally devastated by this earthquake.
